Product Development
Manage the timely delivery of products for Line Building, with completed cost sheets
Reviews all initial costing with management to ensure that target retails/IMU goals are achievable. Find solutions, offer alternatives and resolve any issues.
Facilitate working sessions during Line Building week.
Manage time and action process to maintain calendar adherence to activities and key milestones.
Travel to overseas offices vendors, as needed.
Sourcing
Expedite the collection and communication between Merchandising, Design, etc.
Evaluate and approve/decline of agent proposals for raw material and finished products.
Manage production placement: country, vendor, and factory.
Facilitate in-season changes.
Manage pricing and delivery approval process, including air freight approval. Develop pricing and submit to Director for approval.
Manage the processing of product claims with vendors, supporting quality. Research complex problems, develop resolutions, lead/manage negotiations. Escalate issues, when appropriate.
Manage to Initial Mark-Up (IMU); establish goals.
Manage overall calendar management function which includes delivery of products. Monitor all time and action calendars related to product development, sourcing and manufacturing. Resolve disruptions to the calendar and communicate with all partners connected with the calendar. Monitor the delivery for all placements. Communicate with merchandising, import operations and overseas offices/agents to resolve issues with deliveries. Track products from placement with factory to delivery.
Manage factory/vendor matrix.
Provide exception based support, such as trouble shooting and problem solving which typically involve quality and delivery issues.
Partner with Merchandising, Design, Outlets, etc.
Ensure the product is placed in ‘right’ factory so that a quality product is produced correctly, on-time and at the right price.
Research and identification of potential issues related to Sourcing and the partnership with Merchandising and Design, such as issues with quotas, costs, production allocations, etc.
Research, negotiate and place re-orders and rescue orders.
Assure close working relationship with vendors.
Monitor efficiency and quality of manufacturing operations.
Assure open line of communications with vendors to alleviate problems, issues, etc. Keep vendors updated on order, design changes, etc.
Job Requirements:
Education/Experience:
College Degree.
Three to five years of product development experience, which may include a production and/or sourcing background.
Knowledge/Skills:
Thorough understanding of the product development process.
Expert in product category.
Ability to drive change in the face of ambiguity and complexity.
Knowledge of vendor/mill operations, product construction, and fabric/materials.
Strong skills in product costing and knowledge of financials as related to business strategies.
Excellent organization, time management, negotiation and communication skills.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent customer service orientation. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively manage function.
Strong, proven problem solving skills.
Disciplined approach to negotiation and low cost sourcing.
Highest level of personal and professional integrity and ethics.
Ability to resolve conflict in a direct manner, maintaining an empathetic approach.
Ability to travel ~10% -- seasonal travel to Asia and other sourcing regions as required.
